Monaco nail academy nz - rebutts the reports

Penny at Monaco Nail Academy here in NZ has kindly published her email thread;  of discussions between herself and the producer of the show, prior to airing.

The emails contain facts and resources with links that would have been amazing for the producer to read, learn and report – but sadly they mentioned none of it in their segment.

DO not apply sunscreen to your hands pre-appointment

Sunscreen is designed to block harmful UVB rays from our skin.

Our gel curing lamps emit a small strand (approx 10 nanometers) from a 400-410 nm range of UVA to react with the photoinitiator in our gel polish and cure it.

Applying sunscreen pre-appointment does nothing.

It may however:

  • Leave a greasy residue on the nail plate, causing your gel nails to lift, peel and flake. What a disappointing result and waste of time and money.

  • Potentially disrupt the curing process, resulting in undercured gel – a major culprit for contact dermatitis and allergies to nail products.

  • Frustrate the hell out of your nail tech who can’t understand why the gel keeps pulling away from your nails and is resisting application – left with no option but to deem your nails unsuitable for gel and stop the service.
